About SoundArts

Because Arts Education Matters

Our Philosophy

SoundArts reflects the philosophy of giving every child the opportunity to experience music and performance. The musicals are specifically designed around the National Standards for Arts Education and the California State Standards. Students sing, act, dance, and achieve their full musical potential while also learning about science, history, art, and cultural events.

The SoundArts program is directed by Mrs. Laurie Draper who comes with a wealth of performance experience and musical knowledge. Performances are fully staged, and costumed with up to 4 performances per show. It is important to note that additional rehearsal times will be scheduled one week prior to performance dates (at no additional cost) to fully prepare each student and to ensure quality productions. Past members and parent participation is encouraged as we get close to performance dates. Following the final show, students are acknowledged for their participation with an awards celebration.

Scripts and music are created with the curriculum as well as the student in mind. The Fall/Winter musical is usually a multicultural celebration of the season. The Spring session is longer which allows the curriculum of the musical to be studied in detail. Registration for the SoundArts program occurs twice within the academic year. Any Grand View student in grades two through five may sign up to participate. Please enroll early – some grade fill within the first few hours of registration!

The Benefits of Arts Education

The benefits conveyed by music education goes far beyond success in society, in school, in developing intelligence, and in life. Music has a great power for bringing people to connect with themselves and with others – to be able to express inner feelings and thoughts.

Music is about communication, creativity, and cooperation. Music Education makes a difference and is an essential and “key” ingredient in any child’s education. Students become poised and self-confident, and learn to work individually as well as in groups.

The investment of time, effort, and energy will provide life-long dividends to students. Please support our Sound Arts students. Your donation of time and support is greatly appreciated.
